Snow Survey Reveals Wet Conditions

The first snow survey of 2013 conducted this week by the Department of Water Resources (DWR) shows that the water content in statewide snowpack is above average. Snow surveyors recorded water content in snowpack at 134 percent of average for this time of year.

DWR also announced that Lake Oroville, the State Water Project’s principal reservoir, is at 71 percent of capacity. The Central Valley Project’s main reservoir, Shasta Lake, is at 73 percent of capacity.

DWR estimates it can deliver 40 percent of the requested State Water Project deliveries. This estimate may increase contingent upon additional winter storms.
